Collaborative project investigates Transantarctic Mountains to better understand ecosystem responses to climatic change

A collaborative research team, led by MCM LTER co-PI Byron Adams and funded by the US National Science Foundation, is investigating the Transantarctic Mountains to better understand how land-based ecosystems have responded to climatic change. The Transantarctic Mountains, which extend 3,000 miles across Antarctica, are among the largest mountain chains in the world. The team, which also includes MCM researchers Diana Wall, Berry Lyons, and Ian Hogg, is interested in learning how communities of soil organisms have changed and re-assembled as they emerged from the last ice age, particularly through examining how phylogenetic history, functional diversity, and abiotic environmental components influence ecosystem-level responses to climate change.Click here to learn more about this novel study, which was recently highlighted by Research Features magazine.
